1st Summit’s Scam Sleuth is on the case of the latest scam-the Tax Season Scam!

It’s Tax Season and cyber criminals are looking to get paid too. Scammers send out very official-looking emails to trick you into clicking a link or attachment. They even include instructions to paste the URL into your browser in case the link isn’t working.

Don’t click the link!

Clicking the link takes you to a fake webpage where malware files are downloaded onto your computer. These scammers want your money and your personal data. Don’t help them!

Ways You Can Stop the Tax Season Scam:

  • Always make sure your devices are running the latest software.
  • Never open any unsolicited emails from the government or your bank.
  • If you receive a suspicious email, ALWAYS call the bank or the government department FIRST before you click ANYTHING!
